Adult Anyway
Some days you just have to push through. You might be feeling tired, lazy, unmotivated, disappointed or even wrestling with a looming sense of dread.
Whatever is bogging you down, there is one thing you must keep in mind: Keep going.
Put one foot in front of the other and keep moving. Often, our perspective changes as we are active, but if we get lured into the trap of isolation and stagnation, then our “stuckness” becomes like a broken record - it just plays the same head trash over and over again.
Movement allows for new inputs, new ways of seeing and feeling. I can’t tell you the number of times I was on the front end of a project or event and said to myself Oh God, I really don’t want to do this. And then afterwards, I would be in a totally different headspace, thinking that the thing I was dreading wasn’t so bad after all. Perhaps it was good. Maybe even FUN.
It’s 100% fine to have days where you just don’t want to adult.
But adult anyway.
There is no shame in feeling off some days. This is not indicative of anything being “wrong” necessarily. Some days are just blah. While I’m an advocate of practicing gratitude and cultivating a mindset of abundance, on days when you feel stuck in the mud, chances are that if someone says, “Be grateful for today! Put a smile on your face, sunshine.” - it’s just going to piss you off.
If you have the capacity to recenter yourself through gratitude and mindfulness, fantastic. Do that.
If not, pushing through will be good enough.
Here’s my dirty little secret … I didn’t want to write this email today. I had a bad attitude about it. But I wrote it anyway because that’s what needed to be done. And now I feel better, lighter, more hopeful, and grounded.
So keep these two ideas in mind today:
Action brings new perspectives.
Stagnation reinforces old perspectives.
Happy to be in your corner,
